Nerduo is a collaborative that explores the creation of internet memes and the subversion of marketing fluff.
Since 2007, Nerduo has launched several mad lib-like sites (or “Memelibs”) like And I'm a PC and App For That that entertain visitors and allow them to submit their own contributions, as well as a launching The Battle, a t-shirt that reapropriates '80s pop culture and plants it firmly in the growing online nerd culture.
…hey, it sounded great when we posted that on LinkedIn.
In plain English: We make awesome things. We've created sites that
poke fun at Redmond; we hijacked Cupertino’s “App For That” slogan and we helped a soapy David fight a Goliath that reeks of bleach. We’ve crafted conversation starting t-shirts about things we love.
Mike Essl is an Associate Professor, with tenure, at The Cooper Union, co-founder of the studio of ME/AT, and makes up one half of Nerduo. In 2008 Mike coauthored and designed the book Watching the Watchmen with Chip Kidd and Dave Gibbons. In 2003, his work was featured in Cooper-Hewitt’s National Design Triennial. From 2006–2008 Essl was the Vice President of AIGA's New York Chapter. Mike nerds out on TV, Mr. T, Michael Doret’s design for Rock and Roll Over, heavy metal logos, and time travel.
Robb Irrgang is a designer/"full stack" web developer: from concept to wireframe, to usability/design to full, refined and optimized front- and back-end code. Robb’s code is what makes the Nerduo sites tick. Robb worked with Thirst, Rick Valicenti’s collaborative studio, from 2002–2007 before joining renowned Chicago modern auction house Wright for a brand-wide web revamp. Currently, Robb is working as a technologist in the design department at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Robb nerds out on movies, comics, TV,original art, programming and technology, and time travel.
