InDesign and Its Funky Preferences

Have you ever wondered if InDesign preferences are set for the current document, or if they are set globally for the application? Well lucky for us, Bob Bringhurst has explained it all over at his blog Indesign Docs. While there you should also check out this list of other great InDesign resources.

Two trick pony.

My friends, we have left the beta stage of our project, my friends. Nerduo's [Blank]Meme series continues with My Friends, a look at the man who seems to think he has more friends than Tom from Myspace.

Go submit and rate your favorite McCainisms now. We don't really care too much about if they're really his words or not, my friends.

And if you're worried that this is getting repetitive — Do not worry, my friends. Next time we do this... you will be in the drivers seat.

Too late to blog and I'm A PC

We just launched And I’m A PC and now it's time for bed.

I stay up late and code, and I’m a PC.

Delete, damn it. Delete! DELETE!

Nothing is more frustrating than inexplicable errors. My fellow nerduoist Mike knows all about that. But sure, Adobe might know how to present you with fun, hard to interpret error messages, but Apple is even better at errors that are completely clear yet leave you unable to figure out what's causing them.

The king of this category? Not being able to delete a file because it's "in use". I did a little dance this morning when a post titled "What's Keeping Me? Identifies Apps Locking Your Files" made it's way into my RSS reader via the always useful LifeHacker.

What's Keeping Me (a.k.a. WKM) is a free (donationware — support the good guys, kids) application that does one thing, and does it well: It'll tell you which process has the file open that you can't delete, open, or that's keeping your trash can from being completely empty (Oh Hi, I OCD'd on my trashcan).

IDK, my BFF Jill?

I think that iChat and Adium are amazing tools for productivity. In addition, they also contribute a great amount of deal towards killing braincells and destroying productivity, but I believe that in the end, when used in moderation, they're here to stay.

Now, Apple and friends seem to think that we're all 13 yo TXTing grlz. Because in iChat, there doesn't seem to be a way to disable those smileys that every grownup probably hates by now, especially when using iChat for serious matter. 'Fix the ragging on the cover (also on page 8)' should not make it to the other side as 'also on page (smiley)'.

From macoxshints.com, Via patricking, a trick to get rid of this nonsense. Huzzah.

(Adium, ofcourse, lets you disable smileys through the preferences.)
